Lumberjack Tools & Equipment
If your only tool is a hammer, it is easy to treat the world as a nail. In the same way, if a lumberjack was limited to only a single axe, he may find his hands a bit tied. At the very least, having only one axe would allow him to compete in only half of the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® lumberjack events. In both the competitive arena, and the working woods, a diverse collection of reliable lumberjack tools is what keeps the chips flying.
In an average day of competition, a lumberjack will need several different tools and equipment, such as razor-sharp racing axes suited to the wood species of the day, a pair of springboards, a six-foot long single buck saw filed for white pine, a STIHL MS 661 stock chainsaw, and an open modified hot saw (which is basically a 250cc to 350cc dirt bike engine with a bar and chain strapped to the crank shaft). Adding safety into the mix means a lumberjack will also have chainmail socks, flat soled shoes, chainsaw chaps, and eye and ear protection of their choice. When he is working in the woods, the lumberjack carries a lighter quiver. A razor sharp racing axe is replaced with a smaller axe to drive wedges or trim branches. There is still a STIHL chainsaw by his side, but no race-only hot saw. Good boots, chaps, eye protection, ear plugs and a helmet round out the kit and make sure our hard-working logger comes home safe.
